Oh Jim, I'm so sorry it happened, and how horrible for your grandchildren to know those hurt and maybe the one doing the shooting.

Really appreciate you posting this thread Jim. I hadn't heard anything until I saw this thread.
And, I'm not hearing much news other than what you're posting and online news.
My cousin has friends who's child attend that school, I cannot seem to get a hold of him yet.
Other than that, I have family about 15-20 mins from Benton.
I know it hits home for you'll since you're in a really small town.
Bless you Jim and your family.

I sure hope not as well.
I am so sorry this is happening in your community. You will know some of the people affected. Prayers for all.

My daughter has a very good friend who was in Columbine when the shooting happened there. The psychological affects for survivors is very real. He definitely has some PTSD from that event, and I believe he was in the lunchroom, where a lot of the violence took place.
It is good to know that while talking about what happened for survivors, they need to be given the opportunity to initiate the conversation and not be pushed to talk about it, until they are ready.

Some survivors lose their focus. Some Columbine students never went back to school again, and therefore never graduated. This affects everyone differently and they need support and understanding.

Our KY governor, Matt Bevin just made a statement on channel HLN moments ago,

The shooter is a 15 yr old male student who is now being charged with murder and attempted murder.
Two students have passed away: A 15 yr old female at the scene, and a 15 yr old male who died at the trauma center.
Nineteen have been injured: 14 being treated for gunshot related injures, all who are believed to be students and 5 non-gun related injures, according to our governor, at this time.

    I am sorry, I don't have a link.

Our family friend is doing good, very upset, but will be okay.

My family and friends are deeply saddened by all of this that has happened in our state, our community. We are thinking of everyone and especially Jim (phideaux) and his family at this time.

Looks like 19 injuries at this time and 2 Fatalities.

Lots of people we know, and are friends with , go to church with, are involved , one way or another.

The LE has a 15 yr old boy totally segregated , that seen the whole thing.
    For info briefing I suppose.
Name of shooter, a 15 yr old boy, is out here, but not official yet.

Every church, and every school in surrounding counties are holding prayer vigils tonight.

    Sad day for West Ky.

My dad lived there on the lake till he passed, part of me is glad he never had to seen the area fall apart like this. :( Seems like it is everywhere though as it's happened in many small towns around Ohio.

The HS is actually in Draffenville, not really Benton,
It is a country town , the school is out in the country,

We even have a place in town called "The Kentucky Opry" that has country music shows on weekends.

Draffenville does have a McDonalds, and a Hardees.

    Everybody knows everybody,

Jim, I am so sorry for the news.

It's one thing to hear about this one the news; it's completely different to hear about this from people who have loved ones so deeply touched by the events.

We had a school shooting a few years back that was just down the street from my home. In a community of around 6,000 everybody knew someone affected. It took years for the community to shake off the event and even today it is far from forgotten.

Our prayers are with you and your community.

So it's near the exit off the WKP near the dam? Right? That's how I always drove down was from I71 to the Western KY Parkway to 68 and then to the exit for cozy cove.

    Thanks folks,

It has not touched my immediate family, but many of our neighbors and friends have been impacted.

The whole area is totally upset, even most of the local TV announcers have kids there, and they are having a hard time.

They just released the the girl and boys name that died.

Yes we know the parents, not close friends, but never the less they are part of our community,
We go to church with relatives of those families.

I can see where this will be a long time before anything will ever resemble normal again.

It would be really hard to go to a BB game at the school now.

I'm thankful your immediate family wasn't hurt. But with small communities it touches everyone... Best wishes.

Mobile, AL has had so many school shootings because of gangs they now have armed guards patrolling all the schools. The schools are beginning to resemble prisons, and all the Whites are moving way out to the suburbs and country schools, but the way this is going, that may not even help.....it's not gangs that do ALL the shooting these days, and it's getting worse.

As hard as it sounds, you have to return to that school to support it like no tomorrow. Prayers with hoping the healing process starts quickly.
